This artistic group, born on plentiful, rich in folklore traditions Volyn land more than 50 years ago, has become the pride of artistic Ukraine. "Kolos", as it sounds in one of its songs, is "the color of gold's life", it is a tender melody, effervescent dance, it is everything that nourishes a man's soul, raises it over homeliness, gives inspiration as a gift.
Ensemble's repertoire is in constant development, masterly performance is improving, material resource base is being strengthened. All this is due to enthusiasm, persistency, and professional approach to work of a devoted Ensemble Director, talented musician and composer, Honored Worker of Culture, National Artist of Ukraine, Olexandr Ogorodnik, as well as of Choreographer, Honored Worker of Culture, Mykola Poljatykin and Orchestra Director, Honored Worker of Culture, Yaroslav Naida.
Each performance of Ensemble is a wonderful and exciting show with shining pearls of Volynian and Ukrainian folklore - songs, dancing,
round dances, rites, everyday life sketches and compositions, which reflect the deep history, grain-growing fate of people, its rich inner world, yearning for freedom, perception of beauty.
Repertoire of "Kolos" is being constantly renewed, and masterly performance stays professionally high owing to persistent work of the group. The audience admires colorful, saturated with lyricism and humor compositions "Колядки" (Carols), "Щедрий вечiр" (Lavish Eve), "Ой, весна, весна" (Oh, Spring, Spring), "Обжинки" (Harvest Reap), "Волинськi вечорницi" (Volyn Evening Talks), "Волинське весiлля" (Volyn Nuptials), "Коровай" (Round Loaf), "На Iвана Купала" (On Ivan Kupala's Day), "Марусина" (Marusyna), "Козаки" (Cossacks), "Червона калина" (Red Viburnum), "Волинськi забави" (Volyn Fun). That is why the ensemble has its own creative face. Love to art linked and gave spiritual power to people of several generations who were generously giving and are still giving the beauty of song and dance, energy and warmth of heart both to village workers of native Volyn Region and to the audience of the capital and abroad. The art of "Kolos" was enthusiastically accepted in many cities and towns of Ukraine, in Kyiv, and abroad - in Poland, France, England, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Russia, Lithuania, Germany, Congo, Vietnam, Finland, Egypt, the USA, Puerto Rico, on Cuba, in Italy, Scotland, Turk-menija, Kirgizia, Moldova.
Ensemble "Kolos" is the laureate of various Ukrainian and International Folklore Festivals; it has dozens of prestigious awards. The titles of "National" (conferred in 1964) and "Honored" (1967) are not only the official state recognition of Ensemble's achievements in the field of national culture, but also are true signs of form and content of its long-run activity.
Affectionate melody streams afar, the words are heard:
The song is a well of our kin
Our destiny and time of freedom
Is hallowed from it.
The song is a feast of peasant home
It is full of sun and sorrow,
But the good prevails in it.
